Ability to turn factual information into lively, entertaining copy

Ability to chase leads and use contacts to find and interview case studies

Research and generate new content ideas

Development, planning and upkeep of a range ideas

Source pictures and other visuals for stories

Work with the editor and fellow reporters to generate story ideas.

Call or visit at least one source per day to casual inquire about story ideas

Ensure that your writing is accurate, fair, clear and complete

Work with your editor to improve your writing

Ensure that all sources in the assigned beat areas are regularly covered

Coordinate with the graphics department to ensure as many stories as possible have a visual element with them by posting photo and graphic tip sheets, and when appropriate, by taking a camera on assignment to shoot photographs

Finish all writing on deadline

Keep regular office hours

Attend required staff meetings and weekly desk meetings

Monitor the news daily to keep abreast of issues that need to be covered, and see that no pertinent news is missed

Set individual goals each term to improve journalistic skills

Contribute to supplements as needed
